In October 2009 the Fundació Suñol, in collaboration with the art and intermedia contexts speciality of the Master’s Degree in Artistic Productions and Research at the Fine Art Department at the University of Barcelona, called for applications for the Postproduction Grant aimed exclusively at postgraduate art and intermedia contexts students. This grant aims to promote production, as well as consolidating and raising awareness of the results of university art education within the cultural industry.
The winning project from the nine candidates was Antònia del Rio’s Xiu-Xius en blanc. This project examines the role texts and writing play to avoid oblivion and works on the idea of books as storehouses of knowledge of the world. The artist presents an abstract, dematerialised library that reveals the bare bones of its structure: knowledge and memory.
The €6,000 grant awarded by the Fundació Suñol is to be used to produce the project. In addition, the Fundació Suñol also makes a 65m2 studio available to the artist from February to July 2010 so she can work on her project. Finally, the Fundació Suñol will organise the exhibition of the artist after October 2010, if the project is considered appropriate.
