presentation of publication wit Miguel Trillo and Alfredo Llopico Miguel Trillo. Equidistancias: Souvenirs/Pasarelas
19.06.2025, 18:30
The catalogue of the exhibition ‘Miguel Trillo: Equidistancias: Souvenirs/Pasarelas’, an exhibition organised by the Fundació Caixa Castelló, will be presented at the Fundació Suñol on Thursday 19 June at 6.30 pm. The exhibition was shown in the Sala Sant Miquel from 23 May to 13 July 2024. Alfredo Llopico will talk with Miguel Trillo, one of the artists who took part in the exhibition Warhol&Vijande: Cita en Barcelona. His work is an exceptional testimony to the Movida Madrileña during the seventies and eighties.
Both the publication and the exhibition bring together two major series of work by Miguel Trillo, known for his iconic images of Madrid’s youth aesthetics since the 1980s and their constant reinvention over time. The catalogue reflects this double line of work: on the one hand, Souvenirs, a series originating in the commission Trillo received from the newspaper El País in 1991, which portrays Spanish youth in small capitals, with special attention to Castelló de la Plana, and to which later images have been added; on the other, Pasarelas, the result of his work from 2010 to 2024 in Fashion Weeks in cities all over the world. But Trillo does not photograph the catwalks themselves, but rather the outdoor spaces and their anonymous characters, those fashion enthusiasts who make up a spontaneous ‘extra’ in the global fashion environment.
Miguel Trillo (Jimena de la Frontera, Cádiz, 1953) is one of the key figures in contemporary Spanish photography. His work, which ranges from the Movida Madrileña to the most recent urban cultures, has been recognised with awards such as the Kaulak (2009) and the Premio de Cultura de la Comunidad de Madrid (2018). Her work has been exhibited in prominent centres such as the CAAC in Seville, the CA2M in Madrid, the Rencontres d’Arles and forms part of the permanent collection of the Reina Sofía Museum.
Trillo’s gaze is situated at a crossroads between documentary and journalistic photography, constructing a visual universe that evidences cultural diversity and the common attitude of a globalised generation, where clothes become a second skin and the search for beauty a vital necessity.
