In the frame of the 2013 edition of the SCREEN Festival, the Fundació Suñol presents Cairo Times, which shows two videos from the artists Johanna Domke and Marouan Omara, exploring the complex relationship between what we see, what we know and what becomes an image.
CROP is an experimental documentary that reflects upon the impact of images in the ongoing Egyptian Revolution. The film does not show any images from the uprisings but reveals the inside of a newspaper building – Egypt´s oldest and most influential state newspaper Al Ahram. We witness the proceedings inside the institution while we follow the story of a photojournalist who gives a personal opinion on the use of the media by the old regime.
The video Cairo Times is a personal analysis of the artist Johanna Domke of the use of images during the revolution and the incapability of visual production in times of unrest.
