Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga: Pintura liberada

2025

Through some thirty large-format paintings, this exhibition deals with a highly prolific creative period of great freedom in contemporary Spanish art. A ‘liberated’ figurative painting – hedonistic and without political purpose – that triumphed in the first years of democracy, by young artists who reflected in their works the unusual and longed-for climate of freedom of that decade and a new image of Spain after the end of the Franco dictatorship.

The Fundació Suñol is collaborating in this exhibition by lending the following works from the Suñol Soler Collection:

Luis Gordillo. El alcohólico, 1974

Luis Gordillo. 5 x 5 c, d y e, 1981

Chema Cobo. La señora de la Cibeles, 1976

Chema Cobo. Sweet swimmers, 3 selfwatchers, 1981-1982

Guillermo Pérez-Villalta. Interior madrileño o la intriga, 1978
