Sala Alcalá 31, Mitologías Modernas: Ouka Leele & Co

Sala Alcalá 31 presents “Modern Mythologies: Ouka Leele & Co”, an exhibition that revisits the role of mythology in Madrid’s art scene of the 1980s through the work of Ouka Leele, alongside key artists such as El Hortelano, Ceesepe, Carlos Franco and Sigfrido Martin Begué.

The exhibition takes as its starting point the work “Rapelle toi, Bárbara!”, Ouka Leele’s iconic intervention at the Cibeles fountain in 1987, in which she brought the city’s traffic to a standstill to dramatise the story of Hippomenes and Atalanta. Building on this, the exhibition explores the intersection between photography, painting and contemporary visual culture, as well as the resurgence of mythological narratives at a pivotal moment of cultural transformation: the 1980s.
