O-brim! We Can Dance

16.11.2019, 19:00h

We Can Dance is an act of celebration; it is an accompanied single or, rather, an invitation to dance, or perhaps also a disco. This piece is a scenic game that makes a path between the possible and the forbidden through laws that regulate or prohibit the act of dancing in different places, questioning where the own and other people’s limits are.

It begins in that first step taken before seeing ourselves  dancing. Once it starts, it’s hard to stop it; you get in the mood, in that disco tic. When does a movement become a dance? What happens when it occurs in places where it is prohibited?

Esther Rodríguez-Barbero. Scenic creator, performer and architect. She studies contemporary dance in parallel with architecture studies. She works in research through artistic practice. Her work moves between choreography, the performative and architecture, using principles associated with these disciplines to design spatial and social practices. These propose revisiting habits and behaviours as a choreographic strategy to expand the performative space. She is researching in the context of  a.pass (The a.pass Research Center) in Brussels. Her latest works has been Guided Tour (Artistas en Residencia 2018, La Casa Encendida-CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo), We Can Dance (Antic Teatre, Centro Danza Canal, La Caldera, L’Estruch, Leal.Lav 2017-18), The Manual: On Ways To Inhabit a Table (Decoratelier, a.pass, Brussel·les 2018).

We are opening a new space in the district of Les Corts, in the historic Galeria 2. Josep Suñol Collection’s home since the 80’s and place of residence of different artists, it is an important location in our trajectory that connects us with the beginnings to unleash a project of future.

On the occasion of the reopening, we are having a presentation event for the new space with activities to experience the different ways of inhabiting an empty space. We will have specific projects designed for the occasion by Luis Bisbe, Miralda, Mònica Planes, Esther García Barbero, Anna Irina Russell and Sara Fontán.

Come activate the new space!
