Perversidad. Mujeres fatales en el arte moderno (1880-1950)

2019

The exhibition Perversidad. Mujeres fatales en el arte moderno (1880 – 1950) [Perversity. Fatal Women in Modern Art (1880-1950)], held at the Museo Carmen Thyssen in Malaga between March and September 2019, in which the Fundació Suñol collaborated with works by the artists Pablo Gargallo and Federeico Beltrán Massés, covers more than half a century through images featuring women in which we see a change of paradigm in their representation, which moves from an exclusively male and misogynist point of view to a critical view of women on their own identity. Starting from the stereotype of the femme fatale, which was seen from biblical female characters to the models of avant-garde artists, during the first half of the 20th century women (and their image) are transformed and freed from their traditional role in society. Regarding this matter, the final section of the exhibition highlights the view of the woman artist on the feminine.
