The Fertilizer that Feeds the Soil. Tàpies (1958-88)

2022

The Fundació Antoni Tàpies presents The Fertilizer that Feeds the Soil. Tàpies (1958-88), an exhibition focused on the period between the end of the 1950s and the end of the 1980s with the aim of showing the passage of Antoni Tàpies through the coexistence between material paintings, objects and varnishes. Although the opacity of the walls and the precariousness of the objects seem to contrast with the luminosity of the varnishes, these works follow the same logic: the revaluation of primary, natural and ordinary things, those that society rejects or shamefully hides, but for Tàpies they are not only endowed with spirituality but above all they are where the origin and strength of life is found, the fertilizer that fertilizes the earth.

The works that the exhibition brings together are a reflection of the spirit of their time, in a society in which phenomena such as the impact of the atomic bomb and new discoveries in physics resonated. Marble dust, sand, pigments and other materials take center stage thanks to Tàpies, who gives value to the simplest things, straw, dust, a wooden box, inviting the viewer to stir his soul.

The Suñol Foundation collaborates in this exhibition by lending the work:
