MORTALS+

07.05.2026 - 19.07.2026

MORTALS+ is an evolution of the MORTALS project, characterised by its approach to collective research into death, illness, care and life through art. In December 2025, an exhibition adaptation of the project was presented at the Fundació Suñol—which preserves and promotes one of the most important private collections of contemporary art in Catalonia and Spain—fostering a dialogue between art, health and memory that builds bridges between the past and present of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We are now adapting this to the setting of Sant Boi de Llobregat Hospital, with which the Fundació Suñol and the Fundació Glòria Soler collaborate through the inclusive art project Torrents d’Art.

Direct access to the Suñol Soler Collection has facilitated the establishment of links between a selection of works and the reflections arising from the working sessions with the MORTALS+ group, comprising people affected by HIV/AIDS, researchers, activists and healthcare professionals. Taking Chema Cobo’s work Sweet swimmers, 3 selfwatchers (1981–1982) as their starting point, the group imagined the Domassos del plaer (Apricots of Pleasure), four hanging sculptures accompanied by a sound composition featuring the voices of the participants, in which colour, body, desire and memory intermingle.

MORTALS+ transforms individual experience into a collective one, making art a space for encounter, memory and healing. It is a celebration of shared life and an exercise in poetic resistance in the face of vulnerability.
