17.05.2024 - 21.07.2024

The exhibition Warhol & Vijande, date in Madrid presents at the Museo Lázaro Galdiano in Madrid a selection of 20 photographs from the series ‘Altered Images’, by Christopher Makos, photographer and friend of Warhol, who portrays the iconic artist posing with wigs and makeup, subverting his gender and configuring his most personal and intimate portrait. These photographs are accompanied by Warhol’s works from the Suñol Soler Collection, such as the large-format Mao and the portrait of Fernando Vijande, also by the king of Pop Art, along with other related works by American artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe and Richard Avedon, create a unique dialogue with the works of the Lázaro Galdiano Museum. The exhibition also investigates Warhol’s visit to Madrid in 1983 thanks to the photography collections of Luis Pérez-Mínguez, Miguel Trillo, Javier Porto and Teresa Nieto, which articulate a visual and sociological journey with unprecedented aspects of that visit.
