Alexia Medici interviews Teresa Gancedo

08.06.2022, 18:30

On the occasion of the exhibition Exterior | Interior, we invite the artist of the collection Teresa Gancedo to be interviewed by the curator and artist Alexia Medici.

Discurso sobre la realidad (1978), was part of the 1980 exhibition “New Images from Spain” held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. The work presents us with a sequence where we find various representations and markedly symbolic objects, in dialogue with each other. Gancedo’s intention, he clarifies, is “to use art as a container for feelings of feelings and put the viewer in search of a code to interpret them.”

Teresa Gancedo (León, 1937) resident in Barcelona since 1960, studied at Escola Massana (1967-1969) and Escola Superior Sant Jordi (1969-1973). He has made more than 50 individual exhibitions and 70 group exhibitions in Spain, Europe and America. At 43 years old, she became one of the first Spanish artists to exhibit at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, in the exhibition “New Images from Spain” (1980) curated by Margit Rowell.

Alexia Medici (Malta, 1980) is an artist, independent curator and cultural manager who has lived in Barcelona since 2006. Her projects focus on historical memory, the architectural context and its social narratives. It materializes site-specific exhibitions related to the effects caused in the environment, the passage of time and the community that inhabits them.
